Behavior Issues

New Pets

It is difficult to change bad pet behavior. It is a good idea to start your new pet on the right track. Anticipate situations you will encounter with a new pet and plan in advance how to handle them.

Your veterinarian can be a valuable resource on issues such as :

  • how to introduce your pet to your new home.
  • crate training.
  • house breaking.
  • grooming.
  • exercise.
  • and rewarding behavior.

If your pet gets exercise, a healthy diet and understands the environment of the home, behavior issues should be limited.

Particular Behavior Issues

Some problems can easily be resolved by changing the pet’s environment. If this does not work, confer with your veterinarian for advice about the best way to resolve: Barking, Chewing, Digging, Separation Anxiety, Improper Elimination, Begging, Chasing, Aggression and Biting.

Behavior as a Symptom

Pets may occasionally experience behavior issues as a result of medication or illness. Consult your veterinarian when a pet’s behavior suddenly changes.

  • Breathing Problems
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
